What to know before you apply to volunteer

The minimum age requirement to volunteer for most positions is 16 YEARS OLD. In emergency departments and other critical care areas, the minimum age is 18.

The APPLICATION and ONBOARDING PROCESS can take several weeks or more to complete and includes, at a minimum: an application, a virtual or in-person interview, an online orientation, a criminal background check, a health screening and role-specific training. We follow a very thorough process to ensure a safe and healthy environment for you, our caregivers and the patients and families we serve.

In addition to the time needed for onboarding, we require a MINIMUM COMMITMENT OF 75 HOURS OF SERVICE, which for most positions (but not all) is fulfilled through the same 3-hour shift per week for at least six consecutive months - not including things like vacations, of course!

If you are a STUDENT, in need of volunteer hours for school, we recommend completing a volunteer application no later than (7) months prior to your intended class or program deadline. Applications submitted after then may not be considered due to the time needed to onboard, train, and fulfill the minimim 75-hour commitment of service. Additionally, while we do our best to work with student schedules and department needs, we do not always have enough openings to offer more than one 3-hour shift per week.

In compliance with state law, all volunteers must be FULLY VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19 or OBTAIN AN APPROVED EXEMPTION. Exemptions from the vaccine requirement are allowed for those individuals who are entitled to a disability-related reasonable accommodation or a sincerely held religious belief accommodation. Unvaccinated volunteers with an exemption may be required to follow additional protocols, such as enhanced COVID-19 testing and mandatory education.
